GRR: Women DI College
The Women's DI College National Championship will be contested at 2pm ET on Saturday, May 9. Below are the starting lineups:
The Women's National College 7s Championship (May 23-24, Denver) brings together a diverse group of teams that took very different paths to the final tournament. Some teams qualified in the fall, others are playing 15s until this weekend, while others still are very new to the game of 7s. While there are some regrettable absences, the 16-team field provides a nice cross-section of the country.
It’s been a busy 30 days for Women’s Cougar Rugby. From Albuquerque, to Pittsburgh, to Colorado Springs, BYU has kept its bags perpetually packed during the post-season. The Provo, Utah, team ended its quest for a DI 15s title two weekends ago, and quickly switched to 7s for last weekend’s Piper Cup, a national 7s qualifier held at the Air Force Academy.
Army is the new DI ACRA 7s champion, unseating Norwich after a 22-7 title bout. It’s tempting to focus on the victories over the Vermont side, which had won 63-straight 7s games entering this weekend’s championship, but the spotlight needs to shine on the West Pointers themselves. The hosts dominated the field and played a commanding, smart campaign to the title.
The ACRA 7s championships are being held this weekend in West Point, N.Y., and action of field 1 will be live-streamed both days.
