GRR: Women DI College
Life University and Central Washington University are making their way to Pittsburgh, Pa., for the Women’s DI College spring semifinals. The teams will contest their playoff match on Friday, April 24, at 5:45 p.m. EDT, following the 4 p.m. BYU vs. West Chester game (read preview here).
Division I is four games away from naming its 2014-15 women’s college champion. The spring semifinalists will compete on Friday, April 24, at Pittsburgh’s Founders Field, and name the spring champion on Saturday. The national final occurs on May 9 against fall champion Penn State.
There are so many new, exciting things happening in women’s college rugby. Lindenwood seems to sign a High School All American every other day; Central Washington is heading to the DI spring semifinals in its first year as a varsity program; the Rocky Mountain 7s series has pulled isolated teams in the West into meaningful competition, among many other developments.
One week ago today, Virginia Women’s Rugby (UVA) was recovering from the quarterfinal loss that eliminated it from the DI spring final four. But the end of one season meant the frenetic beginning of another, as UVA had less than a week to ready for the NOVA 7s national qualifier.
The Pacific Mountain Rugby Conference has named its 1st and 2nd All Conference teams, as well as Honorable Mentions. The conference is composed of three DI divisions - North, West, South - and the players were chosen after a heated PMRC playoff weekend at Stanford. The conference will hold an all-star camp and games in June.
