GRR: Women DI College
It was only 10-0 at half, but Virginia Women’s Rugby (UVA) pulled away for a 29-0 Cup quarterfinal win over Rutgers at the College 7s National Championship. UVA will play Central Washington, which defeated Cal 24-5 in its first knockout of the day, in the Cup semifinals at 12:40 p.m. MT.
One side of the women's college 7s championship quarterfinals was exciting; the other saw a couple of lopsided scores. The morning began with Penn State and Stanford, and their traditional rivalry played out wonderfully. Princeton and Lindenwood followed, and that game came down to one try.
(additional reporting by Owen Goff) Pool play has ended and eight teams remain in the hunt for the Women’s College 7s National Championship. The top two finishers in each pool moved into the Cup competition; the #3 teams in each pool will start at the semifinal phase and play for the Bowl; and the four #4 teams will play for the Shield.
(additional reporting by Owen Goff) Round I of the Women’s College 7s Championship has concluded, and for the most part, the results have matched expectations.
The Women's College 7s Championship is happening this weekend, and with Norwich unable to make the trip to Denver, a new champion will be crowned. We take a look at each pool and lend some predictions below, but be sure to watch this two-day event on USA Rugby TV, which will be live-streaming games.
