GRR: Rugby Pennsylvania
Rugby Pennsylvania crowned their state champions this weekend, with a surprise or two along the way.
Played in Mechanicsburg and Conshohocken, Pa, the championships covered two days, with semifinals and finals in Boys HS Club, Boys Varsity, Girls DI and DII, and Juniors and Youth.
The White Horse (Pa.) girsl team has been tearing it up in fall 7s this year in Pennsylvania.
Conestoga capped off an impressive run to win the Rugby Pennsylvania single-school championship, beating St. Joseph’s Prep Sunday 52-19.
Doylestown capped off a superb Rugby Pa club season with a convincing 47-3 defeat of Downingtown to win the state championship and finalize a spot in the Boys HS Rugby National Championships.
In a result that has many raising some eyebrows, defending Virginia champion West End defeated West Shore United out of Pennsylvania 51-5 in a preseason game.
Both teams were missing top players who were with select sides playing at the Las Vegas Invitational - several of them the teams’ most electric attackers. So maybe this was a test of depth, and if so, West End passed.
