GRR: Irish Rugby Tours
Rugby tours find their genesis in many ways, from a coach harkening back to the good old days when touring was often the purpose of the game, to a desire to find challenging competition; what happens when the coach just falls in love with a country?
Last year, Lamorinda took a tour to Ireland, played some rugby and saw some sights; in and of itself it was a fun and exciting time, but the benefits have been far-reaching, culminating last week in being ranked #1 among HS Clubs by FloRugby (in partnership with Goff Rugby Report).
It's not always easy to see where champions found that special something, mostly because it's many things that make a champion, but Lindenwood University women's team's massive success throughout 2018 might well be traced back to ... a trip to Ireland.
The Eastside Lions enjoyed one of their best seasons in the club’s history, and a big part of that was a tour to Ireland.
Eastside finished the regular season in Washington with an 9-1 record, and took 3rd in the Boys HS National Championships Tier 2 after a one-point loss in the semis.
The Danville Oaks won the Boys HS Rugby National Championships HS club championship, and it might just be that a trip to England and Wales helped make it happen.
The Oaks toured Ireland with Irish Rugby Tours during the spring, and the trip sowed the seeds for a national title, and possible more in the future.
