Goff Rugby Report is still fielding comments regarding youth and high school rugby - comments USA Rugby is soliciting to help formulate a plan for the future.
We will be posting a few more comments in a bit, and addressing some of the player-coaching issues in the future, also. But today we will address the issue of select sides on the youth level.
The USA Rugby South U19 Panthers program has announced tryouts for 7s and 15s events in 2017.
The 7s program will compete in the North American HS 7s (NASH 7s) events in Las Vegas (the LVI) and the NAI 7s in Salt Lake City later in the summer. More tournaments will be added later.
USA Rugby is working on a review of Youth and High School Eligibility, including age breakdowns, youth variations, as well as weight restrictions and other restrictions.
The National Governing Body is also reviewing when contact should be introduced to players.
The Atlantis Rugby Corporation will host an Individual Testing and Open Rugby Sevens Camp for High School Boys/Girls, on Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp will be valuable for novice and experienced players alike and is open to any male or female player registered with USA Rugby.
The Upright Rugby Rogues girls of Oakville, Ont. won the Girls Elite Bracket at the NAI 7s this weekend, going 5-1 in round-robin play, and then garnering revenge over Utah Lions Elite in the final 26-0.
