The surprises keep coming in NIRA DI as a couple of teams made statements this weekend.
Lions Caught Crimson-HandedLindenwood made the trip to Massachusetts and were defeated by two-time defending champs Harvard 26-17.
Mount St. Mary's rode a strong first half to defeat Davenport 29-14 Saturday in Cleveland, Ohio.
The teams met in a neutral site at St. Edward HS, and they enjoyed good weather, if a little breezy. The wind, in fact, did seem to have some influence over this game.
Faced with the task of having to win by a massive amount over Samoa and having to hope Australia lost by a massive amount to England, the USA didn't get enough of the massives to do the job.
With a different captain and some other lineout changes, the USA Men’s team is looking to regather some momentum against Japan on Saturday.
Japan is certainly favored, and the likelihood is that the Eagles will be playing Samoa next week in Denver for 5th.
That game will be a winner-take-all for a Rugby World Cup 2027 place.
Walsh University hosted University of Notre Dame Friday night in North Canton, OH and the Cavaliers opened their season with a well-taken victory over the Fighting Irish.
The scoreline, 38-17, doesn’t quite tell the story, as Notre Dame tested Walsh repeatedly.
