GRR: Women DI College
Taking a note from the men’s college rankings, the Women’s DI College Top 20s have been parceled into seasons. These rankings include fall-based and split-season teams, as well as any spring teams that play meaningful (i.e., competitive) schedules throughout the remainder of 2015. In the New Year, a new Top 20 will evaluate teams building toward a spring championship.
Last year, Iowa State and Northern Iowa kicked off the DI Midwest season with a single-digit decision, which went to longtime regional champ UNI. On Saturday, the Cyclones more than closed the gap and overcame Northern Iowa 36-5.
Lindenwood’s first and second sides have played two games apiece, and they’ve combined for a 390-0 scoreline. But the Lady Lions aren’t padding their schedule with gimme games; those victories came against two traditionally strong DI teams, Northern Iowa and Indiana. And this weekend, the Missouri side travels to State College, Pa., to take on Army and Penn State.
After a tight first half, Quinnipiac pulled away to beat new varsity program Dartmouth 43-5. The Bobcats improve to 2-1 overall, while the Big Green are 1-1 overall.
Easily the biggest women’s college game of the weekend, Army defeated Norwich 43-17 in a varsity shocker. The victory marked the first time that the West Pointers defeated the Cadets in 15s.
