GRR: Utah Youth Rugby
After some feedback from clubs, Utah Youth Rugby has delayed its Fall HS 7s series by two weeks.
The delay is less about COVID-19 concerns—at least in a direct way—than it is about USA Rugby's new membership platform and about the needed delays in saying the season was a go.
Utah Youth Rugby will start its fall 7s in three days now that Salt Lake County has opened up for sports activities.
With the Regional Athletic Complex in Salt Lake City now able to rent out is fields, UYR will be able to hold tournaments for boys and girls through the fall. The first tournament will be this Saturday, September 19.
While rugby has been shut down through much of the country, Utah Youth Rugby was able to run a series of modified 7s games for high school teams during July.
Many of the well-known teams within Utah played, both boys and girls. United, Herriman, West Valley, East HS, Wasatch, Copper Hills, Genesis, Kearns, Olympus, and Brighton, to name just a few, were involved.
High School rugby is still divided into single-school and club categories.
Belmont Shore and Rhino Rugby Academy ran off with 3-0 records in a series of shortened games at the Storer Classic at UCLA.
The tournament, which is part of the annual collegiate Storer Classic (won by Cal), is a series of shortened games among teams from Southern California, Northern California, and Utah.
