GRR: Mount St. Mary's
Mount St. Mary's shut out Virginia Tech on the road this past weekend, taking the Hokies down 35-0.
The match kicked off in hot conditions. The Mount started the game off quickly with a try by Angelo Gurcsik five minutes in. The forwards provided a strong scrum platform for the backs to work the ball through the ends to release the senior wing Gurcsik on the edge.
It was a weekend of which teams were ready for the fall and which teams need more time in the Chesapeake Rugby Conference.
St. Bonaventure won an all-Catholic clash this weekend with a 45-27 defeat of Mount St. Mary's.
It was a good early result for Bonnies as the Mount is strong this year.
The Men’s CRC 7s tournament has to have Lindenwood and Life as their favorites.
Both of these programs have performed very well on the national stage in 7s; Life was runner-up in the old CRC three times and the USA Rugby 7s championships once. They also won USA Rugby’s 7s championship in 2011.
Finally Southern Virginia and Mount St. Mary's will be able to take the field this weekend.
SVU has had Queens University and the Naval Academy on their calendar only to see the games canceled. But word is this weekend's clash is going to happen. The Mount has been working toward this game and at one point had to quarantine some players because of a positive test.
