Men's College 7s News
Six teams are undefeated after Day One of the Men's DI bracket in the USA Rugby College 7s Championships.
Defending champs Saint Mary's started in impressive fashion, shutting out Fordham 25-0 and Jams Madison 43-0.
The CRC 7s has announced the pools for its men's competition June 3-4 in Chester, Pa.
The tournament will have six pools of four teams each, with the six winners and the two best 2nd-place teams making the Cup Quarterfinals. This will mean that points difference will be a crucial aspect in deciding knockout round seeds and those two wild card spots.
The pools and schedule are set for USA Rugby's College 7s National Championships in Glendale, Colo.
The Men's DI pools are:
Pool A: Saint Mary's, Bowling Green, James Madison, Fordham
Pool B: Lindenwood, Grand Canyon, Wyoming, Stanford
Pool C: Ohio State, Arkansas, Santa Clara, Florida International
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater won the Upper Midwest 7s Saturday, in the final qualifier for USA Rugby's 7s Championships.
Whitewater will be the 12th team in USA Rugby's Men's DII 7s. The full field of Men's DI teams and Women's DI teams have already been confirmed.
So we now know the teams playing for a major 7s championship in college rugby, and, boy, it's a lot of teams.
It's a lot even though USA Rugby drastically reduced their number of teams participating. We still have 16 USA DI Men's teams, 24 CRC Men's teams, 12 USA Women's teams, 16 CRC Women's teams, 12 USA DII Men's teams, 8 NSCRO Men's teams, and 6 CRC Collegiate Challenge teams.
