BYU swept its two-game trip to Texas, beating Texas A&M and University of Texas on consecutive days this weekend.
The Cougars split their squad, starting a younger lineup against the Longhorns on Saturday, and running out closer to their front-line XV against the Aggies, a game they won 73-8.
Oklahoma put their hand up in no uncertain terms in the Red River Conference with a 48-8 defeat of Baylor Saturday.
The anticipated early-season clash between UCLA and Cal Poly ended up being not being as close as some (like this editor) expected.
A game though to have the potential to go either way ended up going heavily UCLA's way to the tune of 65-7. UCLA was fast and aggressive, led 41-0 at halftime, and cruised.
A year ago Cal defeated UC Davis 136-0 and later 141-3 in a spring in which several top-ranking vs middle-ranking clashes ended up in triple figures; this year little changed as Cal defeated the Aggies 137-0 Saturday.
"We thank UC Davis for that match," said Cal Head Coach Jack Clark. "Tough day for them, but they stuck at the match."
This weekend is all about getting started for spring-centric college rugby teams, and we’ve got the games and out picks in D1A.
