BYU swept its two-game trip to Texas, beating Texas A&M and University of Texas on consecutive days this weekend.

The Cougars split their squad, starting a younger lineup against the Longhorns on Saturday, and running out closer to their front-line XV against the Aggies, a game they won 73-8.

A&M was not helped by a red card to flanker Michael Kilpatrick at the 28th minute, which really put the Aggies behind the eight ball. But BYU was already in the lead.

Lock James Mocke and wing Coleman Meier both scored two tries for the Cougars, and sub back Alma Schoenfeld added two late in the game. Head Coach Steve St. Pierre was pleased with Meier's work and also mentioned fullback Connor Parry as having a strong game.

Tosh Wilcox has been an impressive captain for BYU and started both games, leading from the front.

Jacob McKay, Ethan Johnson, Parry brothers Connor and Dylan, Wilcox, and Dawson McRea all scored tries.

A&M's lone try came from hooker Thomas Batterson.

"This was a good run-out for us as we haven't played since before Thanksgiving," said St. Pierre. "To play two games against tough, well-coached teams, and to travel and test our guys with two games in two days, we very valuable.'

Among the younger players who showed well were front-rowers Gabe Mahu'inga and Mahonri Anitema. Both saw action on both games and look set to make a singificant contribution. Mahu'inga was a HS All American at Herriman HS and is back from LDS mission.

"We've got a really good group," said St. Pierre. "And they're hungry. We've got some big games ahead of us but we're excited about it and how we responded after being pushed physically and mentally. This trip was all part of the plan, and the guys are showing they're commited."
