GRR: Budd Bay
Of the 24 players who were drafted in the recent Major League Rugby draft, 19 played rugby in American high schools representing 18 different programs; so our math tells us that there was one high school program that had two draftees.
Where did the drafted players come from?
Let's have a look:
US Citizens drafted: 22 out of 24
Oldest: Mooneyham (24 years, 77 days)
Youngest: McLeish (20 years, 191 days)
Players from D1A Schools: 20
Players from Schools joining NCR: 7 (depends on what some other teams decide to do, but it could be as many as 11)
Players in D2: 1
Things are a little clearer in the Rugby Washington boys league after it's becoming clear two teams are struggling with numbers.
Week two in Rugby Washington and Budd Bay hosts Eastside while Chuckanut and Liberty are on the road.
In a wild, end-to-end game, the Rainier Highlanders defeated the Budd Bay Barbarians 32-27 to improve to 4-0 in the Rugby Washington Boys DI.
The Highlanders were in DII last year, and won that division. Their special style of quick-hands rugby has stood them in good stead in DI this season.
