GRR: National Teams
The USA Men’s National 15s team needs a new coach, and word is that USA Rugby is getting close to making its choice.
While we’ve heard plenty of rumors as to who has applied, we’ll leave all of that up to the decision-makers. We do know that Mike Tolkin re-applied for the job.
The USA opens up the Cape Town 7s Saturday with the first game of the entire event, playing Wales.
As always, it’s an important game in an important tournament, but since the USA is coming into Cape Town ranked 3rd in the World Series, maybe, for once, they’re not chasing the game.
It always seems like Kevin Swiryn has to work a bit harder to get where he’s going.
It might be because of bad luck, or willful ignorance on the part of coaches, or just the way things are, but Swiryn has had some obstacles to overcome.
The USA men’s 7s team has a couple of changes ahead for the next tournament in Cape Town.
Nate Augspurger, who played well for the Eagles in Dubai, is back in Minnesota because he is the best man at his brother’s wedding.
A few thoughts about the USA’s performance in Dubai:
Did you notice that Mike Friday started Kevin Swiryn and Will Holder in the 3rd/4th game against New Zealand?
After using only two subs in the last-second loss to England in the semifinals, Friday Nate Augspurger, Will Holder, Kevin Swiryn, and Carlin Isles. He didn’t use Maka Unufe and Madison Hughes at all.
