USA MNT Head Coach John Mitchell gave a brief statement at a press conference in Montevideo this week.
Mitchell was guarded in his comments about the USA's loss to Brazil, but noted that a large number of players had received their first caps during the Americas Rugby Championship, and that development of future Eagles was still a big part of the tournament.
The USA Falcons men's team has been named to play in the Las Vegas Invitational Men's Elite 7s.
These are players who have been pushing for selection for the USA Men's 7s team, and several have already been named to the Eagles in previous tournaments. The players were selected to the Falcons after a camp at the OTC.
The USA Falcons Women's Team is set for the Las Vegas Invitational WOmen's Elite 7s, where they will take on Brazil, and Stars Rugby on Thursday, and South Africa Select on Friday in Pool Play.
Penn State star Meya Bizer and former Fallbrook standout Richelle Stephens are part of a team that is very close to the full USA team, but not quite.
The USA still has one more game to play in the Americans Rugby Championship, and a win would assure the Eagles of 2nd place in the competition, and keep them in with a chance for 1st.
Some players have rejoined the USA team. NYAC lock-flanker Nate Brakeley has rejoined the squad, as has Lindenwood center Lorenzo Thomas.
One of the most intriguing brackets at this week’s Las Vegas Invitational will be the Boys U16 7s.
The teams enrolled are very strong, with youngsters from the British Columbia Elite 7s program, Eagle Impact Rugby Academy, and Atlantis leading the field.
