Xavier and Rye won their finals in Rugby NY's last weekend of action.
Rye took the Tier 2 final, beating Chaminade. Rye took an early lead chasing down a long kick for space and exploiting a Chaminade miscue which was helped along by heavy rains on the day.
The ball rolled to the Rye chasers and in they went.
More state finals are on the slate for this weekend.
Xaverian Brothers got by Belmont HS 38-17 to book their spot in the Massachusetts IAA D1 final. These two teams had met back in early April, a game that ended in a 17-17 tie. In the semifinal Luke Bell scored two tries while Christopher Dalton, William Benting, Joseph Karbelis, and Ben Kramer all touched down as well.
It’s all pretty close at the top of Rugby Connecticut as both teams that made the final had to battle through very tight games to go it.
Fairfield Prep edged Trumbull 34-32 in one semifinal.
Trumbull ran out to a 20-7 first-half lead. Fairfield Prep’s ill discipline and Trumbull’s powerful running put Fairfield back on their heels.
Notre Dame de la Salette followed up on their 3rd-place finish at the Boys HS National Championships with wild win over the Marist Redhawks to take the Illinois School-team State Championship.
The San Diego Legion will be holding a University Week surrounding its June 7 match against Old Glory DC, which includes three different events for youth athletes wanting to play the game at the next level.
