MAC Semis Set As Ohio, Dayton Make Their Move - Updated
It’s all finalized in the Mid-American Conference as the playoff matchup are set.
In the North, Bowling Green hammered Ball State 74-7 to finish 3-1; the Falcons already had secured 2nd in the North behind Western Michigan, so that doesn’t change. Central Michigan doubled up Kent State to finished 2-2.
Oklahoma, Kansas in Tight Game
The University of Oklahoma defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 22-19 Saturday in a non-conference clash.
It was an important result for both teams. For Oklahoma, it was another step toward getting this team back in top form after a difficult 2014-15, and doing so against a tough opponent. For Kansas, it was yet another indication that the Jayhawks are here to play.
Rankings Hold in WIIL QFs
The WIIL Conference is down to four as the quarterfinals wrapped up Saturday.
Wisconsin-Whitewater, ranked #2 by Goff Rugby Report, won comfortably, as expected, over DePaul 46-5 to book a spot in the semis. In a much closer game, Northern Michigan, ranked #13, needed overtime to get by #29 Illinois State.
Still Tight in NECRC
Nothing has been decided in the New England CRC, as the top three teams are still locked in a very tight struggle.
Vols Upset Gamecocks
The University of Tennessee scored with three minutes to go to overcome slight favorites South Carolina to clinch the SCRC East.
In a typical tight game between two longtime rivals, Tennessee took an early lead with a penalty kick from Andrew Sayers. South Carolina replies, taking the lead with a try from James Whipper, and Brian Keown’s conversion made it 7-3.
