Bowling Green will go to the USA Rugby 7s championships after the Falcons won the Mid America Conference championship.

Bowling Green defeated Central Michigan 29-5, Miami University 34-0, and Dayton 14-0 in pool play to advance to the semifinals.

In the semis, Bowling Green took care of Western Michigan 33-7, while Louisville won a tough one 28-19 over Miami.

As teams start transitioning from 15s rugby to 7s, so too does their focus in practice and on the pitch.

Gone are the days of practicing scrumming drills with the forwards or splitting up into forwards and backs to work on their respected skill sets. Instead, teams are coming together to work as one congruent group to capitalize on the vast amount of open space 7s provides.

The story of Cal’s Varsity Cup semifinal victory over Penn State had a bit of repetition about it.

Anthony Salaber fends off a tackler, Salaber makes a half-break, Malcolm May tackles him.

Salaber, who was a standout at Dixon HS and the HS All Americans before moving on to star for Cal, smiled after the game at the image.

We took a week off from the college rankings last week in part because it was such a busy week, and in part because there weren't a lot of results and they basically confirmed out expectations.

That wasn't the case for Navy v Central Washington, so fans of the US Naval Academy had to wait an extra week to see how their overtime win over the Wildcats would affect the rankings.
