The San Francisco Golden Gate club is will launch their new Rugby Academy October 12.

The Academy is for players 14-18 years of age, and will meet for an intense series of sessions on Sundays.

The Academy is not designed to take players away from their current HS teams.

Division II rugby may well be gearing up for a third Duluth-Salisbury clash in the space of 18 months, as the colleges that fought for two national title last year enter the fall season.

Last year, Salisbury defeated Minnesota-Duluth in the spring 2012-2013 final, and then, with the season being shifted to all-fall, the Fighting Penguins hammered the Sharks to make it 1-1.

Former Life University men's player and Traverse City Alliance HS player Phil Thiel has signed with English pro club Saracens.

The hooker, who has been capped 22 times for the USA, arrived at the club on Sunday and will be there on a short-term contract while Schalk Brits is away with the South African national team.

The University of Michigan may be adjusting to a new coach in Brandon Sparks, but the team is also thinking about how close they came to a Big Ten championship last year. The Wolverines lost to Indiana in the Big Ten title game last fall, and while they showed well after that, including in the CRC 7s invitational, that loss has stuck with them.
