The word challenge gets thrown around quite a bit in rugby circles, especially when a coach is looking for a difficult opponent to test his players.
One of the biggest problems for good teams at any level is to find games that aren’t blowouts. Lindenwood Head Coach JD Stephenson certainly has been looking for those games, and searched far afield to find them.
New Mexico is proof that, any given day, any team can win. The Lobos nearly saw its 30-29 win over Mountain West power Women’s Cougar Rugby slip away in the final moments of the game, when BYU lined up a 22-meter penalty. But the rugby gods blew the wind in the host’s favor, and New Mexico won its second consecutive league title.
The USA Men's National Team traded the availability of some overseas pros for the New Zealand test match for giving those players up for part or all of the rest of November.
That doesn't mean they played. Blaine Scully and Eric Fry weren't used as Leicester won and Newcastle lost in LV= cup action. Samu Manoa likewise wasn't used as Northampton won.
