There are so many new, exciting things happening in women’s college rugby. Lindenwood seems to sign a High School All American every other day; Central Washington is heading to the DI spring semifinals in its first year as a varsity program; the Rocky Mountain 7s series has pulled isolated teams in the West into meaningful competition, among many other developments.
The girls high school Midwest Championship occurs this weekend in Elkhart, Ind., and a great cast of teams comprise Division I. The field is led by Wisconsin’s Divine Savior Holy Angels and Catholic Memorial, both of whom will be challenged by a host of state champions.
Miami of Ohio came from almost out of the blue to win the MAC 7s this past weekend, and they admit it was a bit of a surprise.
“We didn’t play well last weekend,” said Miami Coach Jared Moore.
The 2nd annual NSCRO Women's 7s Championship has confirmed its lineup. Eight teams will convene at West Point, N.Y., on May 2-3, alongside the DI and DII ACRA Women's 7s championships.
Rutgers celebrated back-to-back tournament wins, one in each version of the sport. Two weekends ago, Rutgers won the Tri-State 7s Championship and followed with a Beast of the East title yesterday.
