The Valkyries (4-1) have taken over the top spot in Rugby Pennsylvania’s girls high school division. The team has rallied since an early-round loss to State College, and has one more league match against Penn Legacy (Hempfield) before hosting the state playoffs on May 16-17.
North Texas won the round robin SWC 7s tournament Saturday, beating Texas A&M in what amounted to the championship game, and earning a spot in the USA Rugby Men’s Collegiate 7s Championships.
Led by MVP performances from Jon Hiller, Michael Bliss, and Hame Havili, UNT defeated Texas A&M 31-28 to secure the tournament.
This weekend is it. The fall and spring college champions will meet at Kennesaw State this Saturday and contest the women’s DI and DII national championships. First-year varsity program Central Washington will challenge reigning DI titleholder Penn State, while UC Riverside will attempt to continue its spring winning streak against Notre Dame College.
IN a clash between two teams that had tied earlier in the season, the Maryland Exiles HS team defeated North Bay 57-10 to win the Maryland HS club title Saturday at Warner’s Rugby Farm, the home of the Wild Geese Old Boys Rugby Club.
The movement in the Boys HS Club rankings isn't as drastic as it is in the single-school rankings this week, but there are some changes of note. The KC Jr. Blues lost to St. Thomas Aquinas, and slip as a result. Back Bay deserves to move up, anyway.
