Here’s a quick rundown of some state championships this weekend
Tennessee State Final
South Doyle 24-18 Ravenwood
South Carolina State Final
South Greenville 13-6 Wando
North Carolina State Final
Raleigh Rattlesnakes 33-5 Charlotte Tigers
In a thrilling and wild game at Kennesaw State University, the St. Mary’s Gaels defeated Life University 30-24 in the Men’s DIA College final Saturday.
The game was back and forth all day, and ended with Life right on the St. Mary’s tryline, but the Gaels managed to escape and win it.
One of two things was going to happen today. Either Central Washington was going to cap off its momentous season by upsetting the reigning DI champion, or Penn State was going to win its fourth consecutive (10th total) trophy. The Nittany Lions reiterated why it’s the winningest program in the women’s college game, and posted a 61-7 victory today at Kennesaw State, Ga.
Somehow the USA Men’s 7s team is into the Cup Quarterfinals at the Glasgow 7s, despite starting off horribly, and then having to weather a comeback that could have unsettled it all.
The Eagles were just plan bad against Canada in the opening game of the entire tournament, as they couldn’t hold onto the ball, seemed scattered on defense, and lost 40-0.
Gonzaga 20 - Georgetown Prep 8
With a crowd of thousands watching on, the MARVC Championship played out closer than many expected, with Georgetown Prep pushing Gonzaga to the edge.
It was 15-8 for Gonzaga until the very end of the game, when Reggie Corbin’s try put it away and won the championship 20-8 for the top-ranked single-school team.
