BOULDER, Colo. – USA Rugby has begun the hiring process for a new head coach of the AIG Men’s Junior All-Americans.
Following the departure of previous head coach Billy Millard earlier this year, longtime MJAA and HS All American assistant coach Michael Engelbrecht led the U20s into the World Rugby U20 Trophy qualifier series against Canada, which they lost.
Despite Penn State's legacy of dominance in Division I, a national 7s championship has eluded the women's team since the competition's creation. That changed on Sunday, when the Nittany Lions defeated Central Washington 47-26 in the 7s title bout, becoming the first women's team to be both DI 15s and 7s national champion in the same year.
Best two weeks ever for USA Rugby?
Well, maybe. Hard to argue against it.
Consider:
Boston College High took the Massachusetts State Championships DI bracket Saturday with a 26-10 defeat of rivals Belmont High School.
The game began as a defensive battle and expanded as time went on. Both teams started off with their defenses making most of the noise. Both BC and BHS tried to work the phases and slowly problem for gaps. There weren’t many.
At various points throughout the Men’s DII 7s Championships in Denver, it seemed as is several different teams were poised to take it all.
