The University of Colorado defeated Grand Canyon in the opening game for GCU.
It's a bit of slow burn for the 'Lopes as they look at an independent D1A season this year, and getting 31 points on the board shows they have some attacking ability.
"Exciting game," said GCU Head Coach Sean O'Leary. "But too many mistakes from both sides. This is turning into a good rivalry."
Here's a rundown of some of the DIA and DIAA games around the nation.
Big 10Two of the top teams in the Big 10 faced off with Indiana vs Ohio State.
This was a rematch of last fall’s conference final, which was won in a tight game by Ohio State. This time around Indiana took the matchup 30-17.
Clemson and South Carolina played a barnburner. South Carolina pressured early and were in position to score but Clemson held on. Then the Tigers got a free kick from a scrum and the Gamecocks weren’t ready—Clemson broke through fairly easily and scored on an 80-meter run.
Our Men's D2 college Player of the Week is Finlay Hutton.
Hutton played flyhalf and scrumhalf for University of Vermont. He's from Scotland, Edinburgh, in fact, but is actually an exchange student from the University of Glasgow. Apparently being in both cities is the linguistic equivalent of offsetting penalties in football—he doesn't have a really noticeable Scottish accent.
The West Coast 7s series kicks off this weekend with 19 teams in action.
