GRR: College Men
Zac Tavenner is our Young Sevens Player Of The Month for a special reason.
Really, it's about what you need in a sevens player. Tavenner is quick, elusive, powerful, intelligent, and works hard. He covers almost all the bases. The one base he doesn't cover? Height. He's about 5-7, but that's not a detriment for the Cal wing.
This past weekend saw William Paterson University Men defeat USMMA, Kings Point Men convincingly 69-5 in a semifinal match-up. The home team earned a place in the final this year and will face Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Men who defeated Marist College Men 36-24 in the other conference final 4 match-up.
Why is Vermont the #1-ranked DII team in the country?
Because UVM is shutting teams out. Scoring a ton of points is difficult, to be sure, but blanking opponents is way, way harder, and if you are successful, then you only need to score once to win a game.
Give up two or three tries and you rely more on your offense.
The University of Mary Washington had to battle for it, but came away with a four-try bonus point and a 22-12 victory over Virginia Tech in the Chesapeake Conference.
it was a muddy affair in Blacksburg, Va,, but it was enough for the Mothers to almost clinch the Chesapeake. UMW just has to garner a single bonus point from its final two league games to secure 1st place.
