(An Opinion Column by Goff Rugby Report)—The Peaks vs Canyons Collegiate Rugby Shield accomplished its goal.
That’s the first thing. Players who might not have received a lot of notice moving into MLR Draft time got a chance to be seen doing good things. For many of them it’s not necessarily about being drafted, but perhaps about being signed as an undrafted free agent.
The Peaks defeated the Canyons 36-17 in the MLR Collegiate Shield Saturday in Herriman, Utah.
The two all-star teams of college players, many of which are applying for the 2022 Major League Rugby Draft (but not all) battled in a game at Zions Bank Stadium.
The Collegiate Rugby Shield kicks off tonight at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah at 7PM ET.
This is a sort of scouting bowl for players who want to be seen before the Major League Rugby draft, although not every player has applied for the draft. Some just want to see where they stand.

It's all coming up Larry Williams these days, as the West Point prop led his team to a D1A championship, won the Rugby Scholz Award as the best player in the country, was named captain for West Point for next year, and now is part of the USA U23 team going to the Corendon Summer Tour in the Netherlands.
