GRR: Women College 7s
Harvard hosts the Crimson 7s this weekend in a warmup to the Varsity Rugby Conference 7s series which starts in a little ore than a week.
Harvard ran out two sides at the Frostbite 7s March 5, and won with their A side.
In a women's college 7s tournament at the LVI that included some select sides, and some well-regarded teams from Canada, it was two American colleges that ended up on top.
The 7s season is nearly over – except for the 16 women’s teams advancing to next weekend’s Club 7s Championship. All but one team are propelled by senior players, but there’s a smattering of college players, and even high schoolers, who will be helping women’s teams in Des Moines, Iowa, Aug. 8-9.
The title required an overtime surge in the final, but it was well worth it, as Winona won the Lakefront 7s women’s division for the first time in its history.
(additional reporting by Owen Goff) Some good 7s has been played through the first two rounds of the Women's College 7s National Championship, but the best game thus far has been between California and Lindenwood. The pair were the favorites in Pool D, but the Lady Lions laid early claim to the top spot with a 15-10 victory.
