GRR: Utah Youth Rugby
Herriman HS opened their Utah HS league season with an emphatic 51-10 defeat of Highland Saturday, putting the rest of the state on notice.
The Lady Stallions got their first taste of 7s last fall, as Utah Youth Rugby hosted its inaugural girls club 7s season. Orem ended up winning the state title and were curious how they’d match up against tougher competition. So they traveled to the Las Vegas Invitational and entered the Girls High School Elite 7s division.
The Rugby Utah Lions 7s select-side program has named its list of players to play in the Las Vegas Invitational.
The Lions will field two teams, one in the Serevi Elite HS Boys 7s and one in the Serevi HS Boys Open 7s.
Slowly but surely, girls high schools are taking 7s more seriously. Fall leagues are popping up around the country, which is a good thing, because unless you live in Wisconsin or Colorado, there isn’t much 15s being played during this time of year.
The Victoria International Youth 7s kicks off this weekend with a mostly, but not entirely, Canadian field converging on the capital of the province of British Columbia.
The U16 and U14 brackets are all Canadian, as is the U18 open, but in the U18 elite level Utah will face three British Columbia Elite Youth 7s (BCEY_ teams, along with Alberta and Ontario.
