GRR: Tempe
Tempe won the Arizona D1 state title with a 34-17 defeat of Phoenix on Saturday night.
The game was very close early on and Tempe held a slim 12-10 lead at halftime. But paced by three tries from outside center Tu Pauga, Tempe pulled away in the second half.
Snow and cold weather hit a few parts of the country not ued to it, so we had a few cancelations and postponements.
The Louisiana teams battled through some snow, although we did have one game moved to later because of the snow. Bless their hearts down there in the bayou but they don't really have the resources to handle a snowstorm.
Tempe defeated Red Mountain in the Arizona Boys HS D1 final Friday night, taking the game and the championship 34-21.
It was a windy evening and Red Mountain started with the breeze at their backs. However, they had difficulty making it work for them. An eager Tempe defense put pressure on Red Mountain and that produced turnovers and mistakes.
Tempe improved to 6-2 after a 37-12 victory over Tucson in Arizona.
This was Tempe's first game since mid-March, when they beat Brophy Prep 57-12.
Working methodically through the phases Tempe was able to build a nice three-try lead.

This was a turnaround for Red Mountain, as Tempe has been on top of the rivalry for several years. However, Tempe is fairly young—and certainly struggled with playing as a unit until later in the game—while Red Mountain has come together a little bit better.
