GRR: St. Ignatius
If you look at the early scores against major HS club teams, St. Ignatius might come across as just a pretty good school team, but one not at the level of the top teams in the nation, but as the season has progressed, the Wildcats' profile has changed, too.
In what was probably the climactic game of the Midwest tournament in Elkhart, Ind. Saturday, St. Ignatius held off Royal Irish 14-12 in a physical, sometimes contentious, and thoroughly entertaining game.
Showcasing a very effective and dynamic backline, Royal Irish rode a torrid first half to beat #6 school team St. Ignatius 36-14 Saturday at Fortess Obetz just outside Columbus, Ohio.
This was an intriguing bellwether game for the #3 HS club and the #6 school team, and in the end Royal Irish showed themselves to be (almost) every bit as advertised.
In one of the most intense high school rugby rivalries in the nation, #7 St. Ignatius defeated #9 St. Edward in an all-Cleveland-area clash Wednesday night at the St. Ed's field in Lakewood, Ohio.
An upset or two and the end of one regular season (no, seriously) highlighted Saturday in boys HS rugby.
