GRR: St. Edward
St. Ignatius won their big rivalry game with St. Edward in Cleveland, with the #1-ranked Wildcats taking on the #20 Eagles.
The game was played in front of a crowd of at least 2,000 as this is the big high school sports rivalry in the city, with these two teams carrying a proud rugby tradition and being only a short drive from each other.
St. Edward, Charlotte Tigers, Raleigh Redhawks, and Glen Ellyn played in mini-tournament at the University of Kentucky, with all four games being competitive.
St. Ed’s defeated the Charlotte Tigers 21-12 on Saturday and then Glen Ellyn out of Illinois 45-24 on Sunday. The Raleigh Redhawks also came out of the weekend 2-0 on a cold and windy weekend in Lexington, Ky.
St Edward defeated Walsh Jesuit by a wide margin in a midweek Rugby Ohio clash at St Ed's Lakewood campus.
St. Edward beat St. Ignatius on the final play of the game to take the Rugby Ohio Boys Fall 7s, and St. Ed's made it a double, winning the Shield competition, as well.
Rugby Ohio used the regular season to stratify the competitions, with one set of teams playing for the Cup, and a second tier playing for the Shield in the final tournament.
In one of the most intense high school rugby rivalries in the nation, #7 St. Ignatius defeated #9 St. Edward in an all-Cleveland-area clash Wednesday night at the St. Ed's field in Lakewood, Ohio.
