GRR: Southern Rugby Conference
The UNC-Wilmington Seahawks came back from a 17-0 deficit to beat Coastal Caroline and win the Southern Rugby Conference Sunday.
Coastal ran out to a 17-0 at halftime, but UNCW Coach Jeremy Tominack said the Seahawks did not change their game plan.
It will be Coastal Carolina and UNC-Wilmington in the final of the Southern Rugby Conference after both won semifinals on Saturday.
Coastal was ranked by Goff Rugby Report lower than East Carolina, and in fact GRR predicted ECU would win this semi, but Coastal won going away 55-26.
“We felt we could win this one, but it took a while,” said Coast Head Coach Thomas Barnett.
East Carolina finishes up their Southern Rugby Conference league season with a game against Elon Saturday, with a chance to go undefeated.
Their first five games could hardly have gone any better, as ECU has outscored opponents 187-22, including a most impressive 36-5 defeat of their closest rivals in the Southern Conference North Division, Appalachian State.
The 6th-ranked University of North Carolina-Wilmington defeated #27 Furman 32-22 to move into a tie with Coastal Carolina with a 3-0 record in the Southern Men’s DII College rugby conference Saturday.
Usually when Furman plays UNC-Wilmington it’s a game that means a lot; often it means the Southern Conference championship.
This weekend, things are a little different. With Furman already 2-1, and UNC-W 2-0, it might actually be a game about survival.
