Tennessee won a big victory Saturday as they beat rivals Florida 45-17 to start their Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference (SCRC) season 1-0.
In NCAA varsity sports it’s called the Southeastern Conference, or the SEC, but in non-varsity rugby it’s the Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference, or SCRC.
But a rivalry by any other name smells as sweet, and among the schools of the SEC, a game between their in-conference foes in any sport matters … a lot.
LSU, Florida, and Mississippi State all emerged winners this weekend in the SCRC Collegiate Conference.
Mississippi State played at Ole Miss Sunday, and the Maddawgs won 33-12 with tries from Terrance Matthews, Pieter Both, Alex Schultz, Tim Brown, and Demarrion Haynes. Schultz added eight points and conversions, while Both added another.
The fall college season is underway and league games are coming soon.
It’s a tough time for many programs as they try to fit in setting up a team for league player, installing the game plan, and also introducing the game to new players.
