Rugby Virginia's West End beat a tough Doylestown team out of Pennsylvania 43-35 in a preseason match for both accomplish HS teams.
West End took an early 14-0 lead, but Doylestown replied with a try to make it 14-7. West End continued the pressure, though, and the teams entered the break with the Virginians up 26-14.
West End completed an undefeated season Saturday with a last-minute 22-20 victory over local rivals Fort Hunt to win the Rugby Virginia state championship.
West End ended its third-ever 15s season with a DI Virginia state championship.
Some state playoffs are are either underway or about to wrap up this week.
In Michigan, Grandville defeated Troy Athens HS 10-0, then beat West Ottawa in overtime to make the state final. Grandville and Ottawa tied 33-33 after overtime, and it went down to penalty kicks, with Grandville prevailing.

Overlooked thanks to more established teams such as West End and Fort Hunt in the North, and other heavy-hitters from DC and North Carolina, Hampton has just been steadily chugging along - perhaps we should say dominating.
