GRR: Rugby New York
The Rugby New York 7s continues with the addition of a few teams from outside the state.
In the Girls Bracket, the NY All Stars (a group of girls made up of Aspetuck, Queens, Albany, and Pelham players) played Play Rugby in two games, winning both. While this seems like not much, it's something with many girls teams still trying to build back.
City Honors won the Western New York Girls HS championship this past weekend, rolling over a very solid Orchard Park team 52-12.
The coaches in the Western New York girls league voted for their all-region team after this past weekend's playoffs.
Champions City Honors put five players on the team, but runners-up Orchard Park added three in a list of honored players that drew names from eight different teams.
Girls All-Western New York Selections:
Pelham HS improved to 3-1 in New York with a convincing 86-14 defeat of the Harvey School.
Along with Rugby NY, several other high school rugby competitions are gearing up this weekend.
After a bit of a soft launch, Minnesota sees four games scheduled for Friday (although one game appears to be a forfeit). Albert Lea, Becker, and Eagan have all started well in an eight-team league, although Southside is probably going to struggle to field a full side.
