It’s easy to say “youth rugby is the future” but how, exactly do you accomplish this?
While it’s good news that youth and HS participation is up about 19%, it’s also true that neglecting growth of the youth game can also spell doom for a program, especially a HS club (which has to re-recruit hard every year) or even a state organization.
Rugby NY wrapped up their HS 7s season over the weekend with Boys Varsity, Girls, and Boys JV action.
With state borders sometimes being irrelevant in the area of New York City, some teams from Connecticut and New Jersey also participated.
Sunday RugbyPA will crowns its 7s champions with four divisions vying for titles.

PennsylvaniaGRR was at the latest tournament in RugbyPA and there is some serious skill on display there. In the boys bracket Berks County went 4-0 on the day, showcasing a smart defensive front and turning defensive pressure into scoring chances. And with some speed out wide and some hard running in the middle, Berks impressed.
Boys HS 7s is in action around the USA; here's a look.
New YorkRugby NY opened their fall HS 7s season with Pelham going 3-0 on the day.
Also in action, PlayRugby fielded two teams, going 2-1 and 1-2 with their two teams.
New Rochelle/Albany combined with NYRC for the first day of competition, and went 0-3.
