Rugby NY Wraps Up HS 7s Fall

Pelham Varsity takes the Boys Varsity title.

Rugby NY wrapped up their HS 7s season over the weekend with Boys Varsity, Girls, and Boys JV action.

With state borders sometimes being irrelevant in the area of New York City, some teams from Connecticut and New Jersey also participated.

In the girls bracket, in fact, it was an out-of-state team, Aspetuck, that won the final tournament, followed by PlayRugby, New Rochelle, and the Shoreline Spartans.

In Boys JV, Play Rugby had won two tournaments but with Pelham and New Rochelle having also won tournaments the top three were very close. New Rochelle beat PlayRugby to start the day, but then Pelham tied New Rochelle. It all came down to whether Pelham could beat PlayRugby to clinch the season.

They were leading going into the final seconds but PlayRugby scored with no time left to win the game, and the season series.

Final Bos JV Standings:
1. PlayRugby
2. Pelham
3. New Rochelle

In the Boys Varsity championship, Pelham came in undefeated, but they were also missing four starters. With PlayRugby 1 having tied Pelham in their last meeting, there was certainly a chance that PlayRugby could overhail Pelham. In their meeting this time, in the final of the tournament, Pelham's outstanding defense put pressure on in the breakdown, and tackled well to shut out PlayRugby.

The result was a 20-0 win for Pelham and the season championship.

PlayRugby had to be content with 2nd despite having lost only four games all fall—all of those losses were to Pelham. It's worth noting also that PlayRugby fielded two varsity teams plus their championship JV team and showed excellent depth.

Final Boys Varsity Standings:
1. Pelham 1
2. Playrugby 1
3. Playrugby 2
4. Pelham 2
5. Albany
6. Hudson Catholic
