GRR: MLR Draft
The Collegiate Rugby Shield kicks off tonight at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah at 7PM ET.
This is a sort of scouting bowl for players who want to be seen before the Major League Rugby draft, although not every player has applied for the draft. Some just want to see where they stand.
The Major League Rugby collegiate draft will have a new wrinkle this year that is about to be officially announced.
Major League Rugby has announced that it will hold its 2022 Collegiate Draft on Thursday, August 18.
The first round will be shown live on FS2 and the latter picks will be on The Rugby Network.
There are expected to be three rounds, with 39 players picked.
Who won the MLR Draft?
Well, as usual with any professional league draft, we will find out years down the road. We don't know which players will get injured and retire 24 months from now, and which players will slowly improve their craft and be a starter for 14 years.
Fullback Eric Naposki, a four-year starter at UCLA, was the No. 1 overall selection by the expansion Dallas Jackals in tonight’s second-ever Major League Rugby Collegiate Draft.
