GRR: Kutztown
In one of several outcomes that necessitates a DII rankings shift, Bloomsburg defeated Kutztown 76-8 in the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference (MARC) final. The titleholder had defeated Delaware 66-26 in Saturday’s semifinal, while Kutztown bettered East Stroudsburg 35-5 for the berth to the final.
In the final weekend of Rugby East action, Penn State defeated previously-unbeaten Kutztown, but KU did just enough to secure the conference championship.
Both teams scored three tries, with Penn State kicking three conversions and a penalty for 24 points, while all three of Kutztown’s tries went unconverted, leaving the score 24-15.
Kutztown University can clinch the Rugby East Conference if the Bears score four tries against Penn State next week, or lose by seven points or less, or tie, or win.
Of course, KU wants to win, but even a competitive loss will do the job.
It’s always fun to give some notice to a player who isn’t the high-profile one on the team.
