DIA Rugby News
Of the DIA games we've got this week all are between DIA opponents (as opposed to crossovers with DIAA teams), and almost all are in-conference.
So that means this is a serious week for the entire division.
The California Conference is looking to be, in the early days, more competitive than it has been in recent years.
The 29-24 scoreline between Grand Canyon and Cal Poly shows that, and while Saint Mary's does still appear to be far ahead of the pack, and pack is bunching.
Grand Canyon managed to pull out a win late against Cal Poly a day after beating UC Davis.
So much can be deceiving in little things like a game score, and certainly that is the case in Lindenwood’s 27-16 defeat of Life in Marietta.
Don’t get us wrong, it’s a big win for the Lions perhaps made all the more important because Lindenwood had been training indoors much of the previous couple of weeks because of heavy snow, while Life had already gotten a game in.
The nuts and bolts of the Saint Mary's win over BYU are pretty straightforward.
Tayson Hammer scored early for the Cougars, and converted before the Gaels replied with two tries and a 12-7 lead. With Saint Mary's No. 8 Kaipono Kayoshi in the sin bin BYU scrumhalf sniped over from short range and Hammer's conversion gave them a 14-12 lead.
Here's a very quick update on some news around D1A action.
