GRR: College Women
WEST CHESTER, PA 19 January 2018 – This weekend eight All-Star 7’s teams will meet at Eckerd College in St Petersburg, FL to compete in the inaugural National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) Women's 7's Select Side Championships.
Big news came out of Charlotte, NC earlier this spring when Queens University of Charlotte announced that it would start up a men’s and women’s varsity rugby program.
Amateurism is under intense scrutiny this college rugby season for a number of reasons.
Junior Lainey Rickard and senior Laurie Segreaves have never met; they don't know each other; their teams have never played each other. However, both women share two vital things: they both play rugby and they are both coming back from injuries.
LAINEY RICKARDUniversity of North Carolina, Charlotte's Lainey Rickard suffered a devastating injury last season.
After their performance at the West Chester 7s, both Bloomsburg and Kutztown entered the MARC 7s with a thirst to prove that their loses against the DI varsity teams were just small hiccups in their 7s seasons. However, it was Drexel who made the biggest splash, taking second at the MARC 7s that surprised their competition in the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference.
