Life Women Wow on Day 1

Life University won the US National Collegiate 7s Championships women's DI bracket, and didn't show any sort of let-down Friday, as the Running Eagles put in a 3-0 performance on the campus of Drexel University.

Head Coach Rosalind Chou said her team had "about an hour" to celebrate last week's championship before they got to thinking about the CRC this week.

"We certainly didn't want to rest on our laurels," said Chou. "We wanted to improve our performance. We knew there were some things we wanted to do better and work harder on."

And so they did, beating Michigan 38-7, Temple 43-0, and Notre Dame 40-0. Chou was pleased, but also detailed in her assessment.

"The try we gave up was due to a missed assignment, so that is something we want to address," she said. "We are still messing with the breakdown too much."

Too many players going into the rucks looking for the quick turnover, rather than spreading in defense and being patient, is what Chou wants to see better Saturday.

It's going to be tough no matter what, as Life, Lindenwood, and Penn State attempt to repeat their top three performances in Cary, less than a week after playing that tournament.

"We're lucky to have a great strength and conditioning coach in Kimberly Knipe," said Chou. "We know playing a tough tournament two weeks in a row is difficult, so with Kimberly's help we are really working hard on the recovery each day."
