Men D2 College Rankings 2025 Week 3
Well, here we go. Strength of schedule has a significant influence on the rankings and we kind of suspected that UNC Wilmington's difficult run of opponents might help them.
Of course, a lightning-halted game meant we couldn't hinge a ranking on that result ... we had to wait. This week's win over ranked Virginia boosts the Seahawks to #1.
IUP hasn't done anything wrong, really. It's just that their conference schedule isn't as tough.
Moving up also this week is Villanova, which we at GRR saw in person an we feel is objectively one of the better sides in the nation. Also moving up is Boise State. Now, this is us fixing a mistake. We had Boise State down as a D1AA team, but, in fact, they have moved to D2 because it fits better with their schedule and with a full-time male undergraduate enrollment of about 6,000, they are well below NCR's threshold of 10,000 (which is the maximum for D2 teams). We had moved Montana State up a bit too far, also, and since Boise State did beat MSU in a close one two weeks ago, we've basically fixed that.
John Brown beat UMS&T and they move up to #27. Penn beats a ranked team and comes into the Top 40. Same story for RIT.
This has so far been a really interesting D2 season in which newer names are putting their hands up—Boise State, Cornell, Coastal Carolina, John Brown, Benedictine, and Penn, to name just a few. We told you these rankings will shift markedly. And now here we are.
