HS Boys School Top 50 Week 17
HS Boys School Top 50 Week 17
Well we have to apologize for the lateness of these rankings.
We had to make a lot of moves, and that included working closely through the teams in and around Connecticut, forcing us to throw out one result to make it work. That, along with a little bit of your editor being under the weather, it took a while.
Fordham Prep, Fairfield Prep, Greenwich, Trumbull, and Rye are all quite close. But we're getting the feeling that Greenwich is getting stronger. They did lose to Rye 24-19, but we ended up tossing that out after Greenwich beat Fairfield Prep 43-12; Fairfield Prep beat Fordham Prep 26-12 and Fordham Prep just beat Rye and Trumbull.
The loss for Rye doesn't hurt them too much, in part because it was very close, but Greenwich moves past them despite having lost to Rye because the rest of Rye's results don't exactly compute with Rye being ranked ahead of Greenwich.
Meanwhile, we bring in Xaverian Brothers (one-point loss to BC High) and Belmont HS (tied Xaverian Brothers), and we bring in Pelham (beat Delbarton, who were close to being ranked, and they have some similar results to those of Fairfield Prep. So they join the Top 50.
Still, Fordham Prep shoots up after their win over Rye.
And, of course, Georgetown Prep moves up after beating Gonzaga, but we're not convinced. It could be that Gonzaga, hit by injury as they are, could have dropped down a bit more. And remember that Gregory the Great's high ranking is based on them beating Gonzaga early in the season. Their playoffs begin now and they could see their ranking shaken.
Finally, St. Ignatius at #1 entered the Midwest Championship but sat about 30 players due to school commitments, and that's the sort of thing that happens in these rankings. We at GRR World HQ get a heads-up on something like that and rank accordingly. The younger Ignatius team took 3rd, but did lose to Bishop Dwenger. But that's not an apples-vs-apples contest, and they remain at #1.
