The Kansas Jayhawks will be in the final of the ACR DIAA spring championships after winning the Eastern Bracket final on Sunday.

Kansas, Texas State Move on in DIAA Playoffs

Kansas led 17-7 at halftime, and through a scoreless second half that lead held up.

Five minutes into the game Texas State was trying to run out of their own 22 and Kansas inside center Fraser Brand intercepted a pass and ran in under the posts. Flyhalf Chandler Owens slotted the conversion and just like that the Jayhawks led 7-0.

That was all the scoring for about 25 minutes until Owens ghosted through from five meters out to make it 12-7.

Texas State retaliated after earning a scrum on the Kansas 22. A simple eightman pick put the Renegades on the board. 17-7.

With halftime on the horizon, Kansas No. 8 Trevor Lister slotted into the backline and powered over in the corner. The sides entered the break with the Jayhawks up 17-7.

In the second half Texas State were hit with a yellow card and it appeared that Kansas would capitalize. Jayhawks loosehead prop Jack Bowersox picked up a loose ball and dove over the tryline. But on further review he was ruled to have knocked the ball forward. Scrum Texas State and no try for Kansas.

Texas State did eventually kick a penalty goal to make it a one-score game at 17-10. But a couple of minutes later another kick attempt drifted wide.

In the final minutes Texas State threw everything at the Kansas defense, but the Jayhawks held on. In the last minute of the game, Brad left the game with an injury and was replaced by Brandon Lock. In an intense situation Texas State targeted the new player and Lock made the tackle and turned the Texas State ballcarrier to prevent the touchdown. That gave Kansas a goalline dropout and knowing time was up, Owen toed the ball past the line, picked it up, and punted the ball into touch, ending the game.

Who will Kansas play? We don't know yet. The Western Bracket includes Western Washington, Fresno State, Sacramento State, and University of San Diego. Their playoff is next week.

Meanwhile, in a tight 3rd-4th game, UT San Antonio capped off a pretty impressive weekend for the Lonestar Conference, beating Minnesota 32-27.
