Wild Results Harbinger HS Rankings Shakeups

Who should we be looking at with the High School Rankings?

Well, watch out. GRR is partnering with FloRugby on our High School Rankings once again, and they will be available on Wednesday.

Here's a little sneak preview:

St. Augustine has shaken up things in Southern California in the single-school brackets. Longtime Texas powers Lake Travis and Westlake have suffered losses. and SFGG beat Danville over the weekend.

That's enough to think we might see something new.

SFGG Over Danville

SFGG was down to 14 players for the final 30 minutes, but was physical and aggressive and beat Danville for the first time in five years. Center Junior Tea was a force and wing Joey Kerrigan was also effective. Up front, the props Lasa Tofi (tighthead), and player of the game Bermie Carlin (loosehead) were immense.

St. Augustine Over La Costa Canyon

In a well-played game that helped decide playoff matchups, St. Augustine finished ahead of the two 2017 SoCal Varsity Red finalists, Torrey Pines, and La Costa Canyon - both teams they beat.

Flanker Charlie Rascon, scrumhalf Ethan McVeigh, and flyhalf Aidan Konja were outstanding, while center Sean Earley was very destructive on offense and defense.

"We’ve had a heavy focus on exiting from our own half, and the boys did well to play the majority of the game in LCC territory," said Ethan Willis, who is one of St. Augustine's coaches. "Our team is very young and the boys have worked hard and believed in the system. They earned the top spot, and while we are happy to win the division, the boys are not satisfied and our ultimate goal is to win the Southern California Championship."

So who will be #1? We've got HS Club and Single-School rankings coming out. Expect to see the defending national champs to take the top spots. But after that, it's a bit of a crap shoot, and especially once you get to #10-#30.
