The DI South sees Life and North Carolina into the spring quarterfinals, with the victor heading to Pittsburgh for the Final Four. The Running Eagles was one conversion away from the century mark in its 98-0 win over Texas A&M, while North Carolina turned a three-point lead into a 55-21 victory today in Greenville, S.C.

“We are very happy about the win and know that we have a tough task against UNC tomorrow,” Life coach Ros Chou said. “We have all surprised ourselves just by qualifying for nationals and are happy to have performed well today against a scrappy Texas A&M.”

Life controlled the game, and when the game's flowing in the Georgia team's favor, then its top finishers - Kaitlyn Broughton and Deshel Ferguson - can do what they do best: slice through the defense for tries. The duo combined for nine tries on the day. Try-scorers also included Anna Filipowicz, Heidi Tressler, Darian Lovelace, and Madison Ohmann, who also slotted the conversions.

North Carolina took a 24-0 lead before UCF started answering with its tireless forward assault. The SIRC finalist came to within three points of the Tar Heels before the Mason Dixon runner-up pulled away in the second half. Naya Tapper accounted for four tries, while Ariel Esperancilla, Tavoiya Whitworth, Alicia Wood, and Nicole Davis added five-pointers, and Cam Gunn handled the extras.

UNC and Life have met before. Last fall, the Tar Heels traveled to Marietta and returned to Chapel Hill with a 59-24 loss.

“They are so skilled and have a great tactical kicking game,” Chou said of her team’s quarterfinal opponent. “We know it's going to be a very competitive match tomorrow, and UNC has improved quite a bit since we competed against them in early November.”

The DI quarterfinal will kick off at 1 p.m. ET.
