Spain has won the women's final Olympic qualifier and will join their men's team in Rio 2016 this August.

Led by brilliant playmaker and finisher Patricia Garcia, Spain defeated Russia 19-12 in the final, after hammering Kazakhstan in the semis. Supported by hundreds of fans at the University College Dublin Bowl in the Ireland's capital, Spain was the class of the tournament.

"It's amazing. I'm really, really happy for the team – we are the happiest girls in the world at the moment because now we get to go to the biggest sporting stage of them all in Rio. It's an incredible feeling," said Garcia. "Our men qualifying last week has been the inspiration for us all week. We took their example with the teamwork we showed. I am pretty emotional but with smiles, not tears.”

Russia needed all they had to beat Ireland in the semis, 19-10, but fell behind 14-0 against Spain. A late surge brought them within a try, but that was it for Russia.

Ireland took the bronze 17-5 over Kazakhstan, an achievement that came with the tangible benefit of securing core team status for next season's HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series along with the already confirmed Spain and Russia.

So the women's Olympic field is set:

Spain, Great Britain, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Colombia, USA, France, Kenya, Fiji, Japan, and Brazil.
